Motel Meals Canceled Feb. 3.

The Motel Meals program for Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022 has been canceled due to lingering snow and ice at the sanctuary, 39 Park St., Bordentown, NJ. The monthly program to deliver a hot meal to homeless people taking emergency shelter in local motels is coordinated by Kara DeRose, chairwoman of the Social Action Committee and a member of the Board of Trustees of DDUUC. She said she plans to resume meal deliveries on Feb. 10 and 17.

The Five Jagged Rocks of Unitarian Universalism

Unitarian Universalism is a living, breathing faith, and our theology is proof of that. Many people think that to be UU means  to believe whatever you want, but is that really true? While the seven  principles state our values as Unitarian Universalists, the five jagged rocks explore UU views on God, the value of human life, purpose, truth, and the afterlife.

Karishma Gottfried is a young adult raised in the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Corvallis, Oregon, and a junior studying religion at Wellesley College in Massachusetts. She recently was one  of the panelists for the 2021 Sophia Lyons Fahs Lecture, and currently  serves The Sanctuary Boston as Campus Ministry Coordinator. DDUUC Services are on Zoom through the month of February due to the surge in Covid-19 cases. More information about our activities is available on the DDUUC calendar. Our sanctuary is at 39 Park Ave. Bordentown, NJ 08505. You can reach us at (609) 444-9349 or DDUUC@yahoo.com.

James Baldwin: Release, Release, Release

The Rev. Roger Butts, pastor of Prairie UU Church in Parker, Colorado, will speak to us about a crucial event in the life of the writer and activist James Baldwin. He found himself in a position where he could have been killed, and he found himself in a position where he realized he could kill someone. He learned about the power of release in that moment, and it saved his life.

Jan. 9 Service is on Zoom

Due to the increasing cases of Covid-19 and the omicron variant, the Board of Trustees decided to hold Sunday services remotely for the month of January 2022. As of this writing, the DDUUC calendar had not been updated to reflect this, but it’s still chock-full of good information.

Heartfelt thanks to Clarissa Rose for leading our Jan. 2 service, a talk-back and discussion about new beginnings and perspective on New Year’s resolutions. She mentioned this 10,000 Maniacs song as an inspiration. Older congregation members may remember the one below it that includes the lyrics, “These are the good old days.”

A heartfelt thanks to John DeMasi for his excellent Happy Holidays Sing-A-Long on Dec. 26, 2021. As promised, he revealed some greatest achievements of recorded music. The best-selling Christmas single of all time is White Christmas by Bing Crosby, the best-selling album is Elvis Presley’s Christmas Album and Gene Autry, the singing cowboy, had a No. 1 hit with Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer in Christmas week of 1949.

Although the DDUUC calendar has not yet been updated to reflect the change back to remote services, other information is available.
