Social Action

New Day for Motel Meals

The “Motel Meals” program is changing from the third Thursday of the month to the third Wednesday beginning with September. This program delivers a hot meal to people in emergency shelter in local hotels. The chair of our Social Action Committee is Kara DeRose. Contact her at and put “Motel Meals” in the subject line.

Here is a recent message from her to her crew:

Thank you so much to everybody who contributed and helped me prep\deliver this month’s meals. We were able to prepare 59 fried chicken dinners, 9 kids lunches, and 4 toddler meals. We were also able to provide breakfast for all. This wouldn’t be possible without everybody’s generous donations! And as you can see our shelves are stocked so we should be set for a few more months! Thank you all!

Aid to Afghan refugees

The Unitarian Universalist Association has recommendations for anyone wishing to help Afghan refugees. Click here.

Social Action is key aspect of Unitarian Universalism.

We focus on good works in this life as the highest expression of our spirituality. Our Social Action Committee is responsible for serving the needs of adults and children in Bordentown and the surrounding areas.

  1. Our activities include preparing and delivering meals to the needy living in two motels in Bordentown. They are homeless people living in the motels as emergency shelter. We start at 3 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month. Volunteers are always welcome.
  2. For example, in August of 2020, DDUUC provided 50 meals, including seven for children and three for toddlers. Donated backpacks and school supplies were also given to needy families.
  3. We also collect hats, mittens and gloves for both children and adults for our annual Mitten Tree.
